An alleged drug mert from Somerset West will appear in court on Friday morning after he was bust with drugs worth R8.9 million by the Hawks on Tuesday.
Hawks spokesperson, Captain Philani Nkwalase, says they swooped in on the man’s storage unit where he kept his stash.
Nkwalase says officers of the Hawks’ Narcotics Enforcement Bureau (SANEB) watched the 25-year-old man enter a storage facility where he kept his stash of tik, heroin and mandrax and raided the unit.
“The officers were taking part in an intelligence disruptive operation after information was obtained that narcotics were clandestinely being kept inside a storeroom,” he explains.
“The team found heroin, tik and mandrax [and] a handgun.
“A vehicle reportedly belonging to the apprehended suspect was also seized.”
The man was arrested and will appear in the Somerset West Magistrates’ Court today on drug dealing charges.
The Hawks National Head, Lieutenant-General Godfrey Lebeya, has applauded the arrest and says it demonstrated the police’s commitment to reducing the availability of dangerous drugs in and around Cape Town.
