Gunshots rang out in Vygie Street at about 5.30pm and according to a source, the murdered men aged 23, 33 and 36 are believed to be member of the 28s gang.
Photographs of the incident posted on social media show the bloody bodies of the men with gunshots in the head and in the back.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Leon Fortuin, confirms the triple murder and says the motive for the shootings is unknown at this stage.
“The police are busy with a triple murder investigation. No arrests have been made as yet in connection with the shootings.”
The source says residents in Vygie Street were toe bek when police arrived and did not want to provide any information on what led up to the shootings.
The Bishop Lavis Community Police Forum did not respond to inquiries from the Daily Voice.
In a separate case, a 32-year-old man was arrested in Sky Road on Sunday after he was found with a Star 9mm pistol and five rounds of ammunition.
Fortuin says officers of the Operation Combat unit were patrolling Bishop Lavis when they spotted a suspicious looking male who started to run when he saw the police.
“The police officers gave chase and caught the suspect in the road with the firearm and the ammunition in his possession. The suspect was arrested and charged with illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.”
