A well-known Delft taxi driver was arrested on Monday with five other men after they allegedly abducted and beat up suspected skelms who had broken into his house.
A neigbour says the taxi driver was at work when he was notified about a break-in at his house in Symphony Village New Flats.
The man’s TV and car batteries were apparently stolen.
He allegedly rounded up five friends and took his taxi to search for the skelms.
The neighbour feels the driver was within his rights to find the people who broke into his house as everyone was gatvol of crime.
“Skollies get arrested and released just after a few days, I would have beaten them up too,” the neighbour says.
It is alleged that the group found the skelms in Leiden and moered them with hammers while demanding that they reveal where they had sold the stolen items.
They allegedly drove around Delft with the diewe and residents notified officials about the incident.
Law Enforcement officials spotted the taxi and gave chase, says spokesman Wayne Dyason.
“LEAP Law Enforcement officers were informed yesterday (Monday) of three young people who were apparently abducted and were given a vehicle description.
“They spotted the vehicle in the main road and transported the occupants of the vehicle to the South African Police Service,” says Dyason.
He said the taxi driver and his friends were handed over to the police but one managed to get away.
The suspected skelms were transported to hospital.
Police did not respond to queries by last night.
