A family has filed a missing person’s report after a man who was taken away by Mitchells Plain cops never returned home.
Monray Swarts, 30, was picked up in Tafelsig six days ago for questioning.
His caregiver Faroesa Dooling, 49, says detectives fetched him around 4pm on Wednesday.
“I became really worried when he didn’t return two hours later. I went to the police station to find him, but one of the detectives who picked him up said they released him,” she explains.
“He was taken into the police station for a charge that was laid against him after he borrowed money from someone and failed to reimburse them.
“But he was released to the complainant and he has been missing since then.”
Faroesa says she thought the men, who identified themselves as detectives, were lying about their identity.
“During my own investigation I managed to get the vehicle registration number and found out that the car really belonged to the Mitchells Plain police.
“In the video footage I could only see two people in the front and Monray was in the back with another cop.”
Cops have confirmed that he had been at the precinct.
Spokesman Captain FC van Wyk says: “The person was brought into Mitchells Plain SAPS by police for questioning, but was later released.
“He allegedly did not return home and his family has opened a missing persons enquiry at Mitchells Plain SAPS. The investigation continues.”
Faroesa tells the Daily Voice Monray never stays away from home.
“He came to live with me in March and he doesn’t even like being outside the house. If he needs to buy something he would rather send me to the shops.
“He would not just leave without telling anyone.”
