Eben Etzebeth is concentrating on the World Cup only and not the off-field allegations that has led to a social media storm last weekend.
Etzebeth, who is alleged to have racially and physically abused a man in Langebaan last weekend, was included in the Springbok squad for the World Cup in Japan next month.
Witnesses have come forward and police have confirmed the matter is being investigated.
And of his inclusion, Etzebeth tells Netwerk24: “They [the police] said everything is fine. Now I can just focus on the World Cup.”
His coach Rassie Erasmus believes in Etzebeth’s innocence and says: “I’m pretty comfortable with what he has told me, you can’t just believe what someone else says on social media. I’m comfortable that it’s not the truth, and if anything like that was the truth then they would not be part of our team and would not go to the World Cup.”
Etzebeth has taken to Facebook to deny the allegations against him, while there have been calls for him to be removed from the World Cup squad until the matter has been finalised.
