Lotus River residents say a field in Stephen Road is being used as a shooting range by skollies after a 32-year-old man was shot on Sunday.
Residents were shocked when a man, known only as Hennie, collapsed in a driveway just after 6pm near the field and was rushed to hospital.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi confirmed the incident.
“Grassy Park Police attended to a complaint on Sunday at about 6pm in Stephen Road, Lotus River.
“Upon arrival, they found an unknown 32-year-old male who sustained a bullet wound lying in the driveway of a home.
“According to reports, members of a rival gang shot the victim upon which he collapsed.
“The unknown suspects fled the scene and are yet to be arrested.”
A woman said Hennie was shot on a field situated close to Stephen Road Primary and that it was not the first time that a shooting took place there.
“They shoot all the time here and on Sunday, we heard the shots going off and then when I came outside we saw Hennie, stumbling around in the road until he went in by one gate and collapsed.
“We have been asking the City to do something about the field because this happens all the time.
“We have lots of bullet holes on the side of our house from all the shootings and must always fix it and we are scared that one day somebody from our house will be shot by a random bullet.”
The owners of the house where Hennie collapsed refused to comment.
