An alleged robber got a taste of his own medicine and was found dead on an open field in Kraaifontein on Sunday morning.
The unidentified man was found lying face down on the veldjie between Belmont Park and Bloekombos.
A resident says she saw the man lying on the field earlier, but thought he was asleep.
“I saw someone lay on the shortcut, but I didn’t take much notice because I thought the man was sleeping as he was lying face down.
“When daylight came I called people to check why this man was lying so weirdly,” the woman says.
She says as soon as the trail of blood was spotted, police were alerted.
She says people recognised him as a “well-known skelm”.
“We saw blood there where he fell down. He didn’t have any shoes on. We called police immediately. Some people came to the scene and recognised him. He always robbed people and now it seems he got a taste of his own medicine,” she adds.
Police spokesperson, Lieutenant-Colonel André Traut, says a murder docket has been opened for investigation.
“This office can confirm that the murder of an unknown male person is being investigated after his body was discovered in Bloekombos [yesterday] morning. No one has been arrested as yet,” Traut said.
