A woman is lucky to be alive after she fought off armed skelms who tried to steal her iPhone 11 – and has the photos to prove it.
The New Crossroads resident, whose name is withheld for her safety, says she and her cousin were walking to a barber on Monday at around 3.30pm.
While she was taking pictures of him, a car suddenly stopped in front of them.
“I was walking with my cousin and we were taking pictures of our shadows with his phone. And this car just appeared in front of us.
“Two guys got out of the vehicle and one of them had a gun and he came towards us and demanded the phone,” she says.
She was shocked and scared but decided to stand up to him.
“I gathered the courage to say I am not going to do that,” she says.
“I had two choices, to either throw the phone inside a yard we were next to, but I thought that the phone may either break or the skollies may run into the yard and take it anyway.
“I stood my ground and told them that I was not going to hand the phone over to them.”
She says the angry gunman lashed out at her.
“He hit me with the gun on my forehead and twice on my mouth. I don’t remember what exactly I said but he went back into the car and drove off.”
“Honestly, I don’t know where I got the courage from, but I am grateful that I am still alive because anything could have happened.
“I am not encouraging anyone to act the way I did in that situation because it’s dangerous, but anyone who knows me knows that I fight with skollies. What angers me is the way they feel entitled to our belongings.”
The young woman says later when she went through her phone, she saw that she had taken pictures during the struggle.
“Somehow I was still capturing pictures during the incident, that’s how I got their pictures.
“I just want other people in my community to take precaution when walking around with their cellphones.”
