Two bodies have washed up on Cape Flats shores in less than a week, but authorities say “this is nothing new”.
A second body washed up on the beach between Mnandi Beach and Monwabisi Resort on Tuesday afternoon just after 4pm.
The unknown man’s hands were tied with a navy blue jacket while his blue jeans were pulled down to his ankles.
Police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk, says a case of murder has been opened after the victim was found with a gash to the head.
“The body was seen floating on the water between Mnandi Beach and Monwabisi Resort.
“The body had an open wound to the head, it was clothed in blue denim jeans with white Levi takkies, brown t-shirt, navy blue fleece top and black jersey with a zipper.”
On Saturday, the body of a 24-year-old male washed ashore below the rocks at Monwabisi Beach at high tide.
This man’s hands were
also tied behind his back and he was naked.
Police confirmed three people were arrested for this incident, but would not comment on whether they were related.
Law Enforcement spokesperson, Wayne Dyason, says finding dead bodies at the often deserted beaches is nothing new.
“This is not a new trend. The area is infamous for the dumping of bodies and over the years we have come across many bodies,” Dyason says.
“Some show obvious signs of violent death, like gunshot wounds or the hands being tied. It is suspected that it (the killing and/or dumping) occurs mainly at night when the area is even quieter.
“Some of the bodies that wash up are as a result of drownings,” Dyason added.
