A Grassy Park business owner says a viral video apparently showing community members stopping a thief are untrue.
Rash Sobotker said at 6.30pm on Saturday, a man kicked in the window of his hair salon, NuImage Hair Design, on the corner of Zeekoe Road and Fifth Avenue.
“I was standing outside with my employee waiting for an Uber when the guy by the stalltjie shouted that this guy just kicked my window in.
“I went to him and I could see he was high or drunk or something and when I asked him why he did it, he threatened to kill me and said he was going to stab me.
“When he came for me, I klapped him.
“I called the police to arrest him.
“Afterwards, people sent me the video and I saw that they were saying that the community came to help stop a burglar.
“People must not come make up their own stories here.”
The business owner added the incident caused massive trauma for his employee.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi said Grassy Park SAPS had no record of the arrest while Rash added he did not lay charges.
“The police told me that if I lay charges then I must get this guy to pay for the door and that is going to be too much stress,” he added.
“I just wanted him away from me because he was threatening me.”
