A large section of the Rahmaniyeh Primary School went up in flames on Wednesday after a fire broke out at the rear of the property.
This is the second school that caught fire in District Six in just under a week.
On Thursday several classrooms, the feeding scheme and a brand-new library at Holy Cross Roman Catholic Primary School were gutted in a blaze. Fortunately, no children were hurt.
The schools are about 200 meters apart.
According to a witness on Wednesday, large flames and thick clouds of smoke started billowing from Rahmaniyeh shortly before 4pm.
Police and firetrucks and emergency workers were on the scene within minutes.
Justin Kumlehn, 31, says he was in the courtyard of The Boulevard Office Park.
“I was in the courtyard and I saw the smoke coming over. I went to look and when I got outside I got a skrik when I saw the big flames coming from the Muslim school.
“I could not see any children but shortly afterwards the fire trucks and police arrived and the building was blocked off. The fire seems to be at the back of the building and the entire roof is gone.”
Fire and Rescue Services could not respond to media queries at the time of going to press.
