A group of gun-toting skelms who have been carrying out robberies at malls across Cape Town are finally behind bars after being nabbed by wakker cops.
The trio were busted in a high-speed chase through Heideveld after they tried to flee from the Flying Squad.
According to a source, the trio were watched on cameras for several weeks.
“They were driving a silver VW Polo and committing robberies all over, in Claremont, Kenilworth and the Cape Town CBD,” says the source.
“They go around robbing people at gunpoint and they speed away using the same car but change the number plates.
“The cameras picked up that they would move around every three days.
“On Monday they were spotted at Vangate Mall by the Flying Squad and then they tried to drive away. They were chased through Heideveld and caught near Ascension Road.”
SAPS’ Joseph Swartbooi confirms the arrest and says the Flying Squad were tracking the movements of the VW Polo.
“They were involved in committing armed robberies in different parts of the metropole,” he says.
“They spotted the vehicle near Vangate Mall on Monday.
“As the patrol vehicle approached, the driver of the suspicious vehicle sped off, which resulted in a high-speed chase.
“The vehicle was brought to a halt near to the corner of Duinefontein and Ascension Roads in Heideveld.
“A 9mm Norinco pistol with ammunition and presumed stolen property were confiscated.
“Three males aged 21, 29 and 32 were arrested and detained.”
Swartbooi says once charged the trio will appear in the Athlone Magistrates’ Court.
