An alleged car skelm has been caught after three years of jepping karre at Parow Centre.
The 58-year-old Delft man got a skrik on Friday while walking down De La Rey Road when a security team pounced on him just metres from the shopping centre.
Security manager, Ronald Pillai, says catching the man after three years made his day.
“This guy is an ou skelm and he first stole a car at the centre in 2016,” Pillai says.
“He walks around with a fez and we have been keeping an eye out for him. In 2016 he came to the centre and stole a bakkie, he was picked up on cameras.
“Then in 2017 he came back and stole a red Fiat Uno.”
Pillai says on 22 February, he was sitting in his office when a crying maintenance man came to him saying his white Toyota Corolla had been stolen.
“The guy does cupboards and maintenance work and his car is his only way to get around and do his work and again this guy came in and stole his vehicle,” Pillai says.
“On the camera footage, you can see him coming in at the cinema entrance and going towards the parking area and he leaves with the vehicle.
“The owner made a case at Parow SAPS.”
Last Friday, Pillai says they spotted the skelm walking in the road and caught him.
“The whole team went and we jumped him. He was so shocked, he ask me: ‘Mr Pillai what is going on now?’
“He knows me by name because I arrested him once before for car break-in implements. We found 11 different car keys on him and handed him over to Parow police who booked him in.
“We asked where the Toyota was and we know they take it to a place somewhere in Delft but he refused to tell us where.”
SAPS, Lt.Col. Andrè Traut, did not respond to questions on the man’s arrest despite being given a case number.
