City cops have nabbed an elderly man after discovering an arsenal of weapons in his house.
On Tuesday, the City of Cape Town’s Law Enforcement Stabilization Unit (SU) members received a tip-off about a male suspect in the Somerset West area who was in possession of a large number of firearms and ammunition.
Mayco Member for Safety and Security, JP Smith, says a 67-year-old suspect was arrested after the caché of 20 firearms, 21 fake guns, gunpowder and explosives were found.
“The officers visited the address and interviewed the suspect,” says Smith.
“The officers discovered a total of 16 rifles, four pistols, a substantial amount of ammunition, 21 imitation firearms and explosive gunpowder. Other explosives were also found.

“The 67-year-old suspect from Briza Estate, Somerset West, was arrested and charged with the possession of illegal firearms, the unlawful possession of ammunition and the illegal possession of explosives,” says Smith.
The man was detained at the Somerset West police station and will appear in the Somerset West Magistrates’ court soon.
