A man survived after he fell from a moving train onto the tracks at Retreat station early Tuesday morning.
The man had allegedly been moving between carriages to get away from the train inspector when the incident happened.
According to witnesses the man had run away when he saw the inspector entering the carriage to check commuters’ tickets.
Cecelia Joseph, 28, from Retreat said the man, who looked to be about 30 years old, immediately jumped up and left but as he came between two carriages, he slipped and fell onto the tracks and landed under the train.
“The train then came to an emergency stop and paramedics were called in to treat the man.
“He seemed dazed and there was a lot of blood, but it appears he was still awake and able to say where he was injured,” the shocked woman said.
She slammed the man for not paying for his ticket.
“We all have to pay our way, but some people just like to make a person’s life difficult. I will now be late for work and lose out on my pay,” said the single mother of two.
Metrorail spokesperson, Riana Scott, said they were aware of the incident.
“We received a report of a commuter who fell under a train at Retreat station on Monday morning at approximately 6:15am.
“He was allegedly fleeing a fare collection action at the station.
“Emergency services attended to him and the line was cleared for normal operation at 6:50am.
“Two trains had to be cancelled as a result,” Scott said.
