So many things have changed, so I thought I would give you an update on the application for R350 UIF social distress grant.
Here is the criteria to apply:
Any unemployed South African older than 18.
Must not be a recipient of other social grants, including old age, child support or disability grants.
Applicants should not be earning any sort of income.
Recipients of NSFAS funding do not qualify.
Prisoners and all other beneficiaries of state-funded welfare do not qualify.

Applicants have been urged to apply via WhatsApp or SMS as it easier.
You can also go directly to this webpage to apply:
You will be asked to enter a 10-digit cellphone number, and you will the receive a six-digit one-time pin (OTP) via SMS.
Enter that and you are taken to a form to fill out.
Points to remember:
You no longer need proof of address, but you do need to give them an address.
Active bank account details are required.
If you don’t have a bank account, you can use your mobile phone number for cardless withdrawals at bank ATMs.
Your payment will be done via e-wallet with FNB, or Cash Send with ABSA.
You can choose a bank ATM which is closest to you to go and collect the money.
If an application is rejected, it may be due to a recently changed cellphone number.
If you have in the past given a different number to government on any system, it may now kick out your application on this new number
Sassa offices are now open.
On Mondays and Tuesdays staff would assist the elderly with applicants for social grants, while child support grants and foster care grants would be processed on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Sassa has plans in the pipeline for cashless store vouchers, but they are not available yet.
Sassa has warned that there will be no “back pay”.
You must register in May for the May pay-out.
If you register in June, you will not get May’s money.
