Several specialised police units have been called into Philippi East after six women and five men were killed in three separate shootings over the weekend.
In the first shooting on Friday, police were called to Marcus Garvey at about 11pm where the bodies of six young women aged between 18 and 26-year-old were found in 25th Crescent.
Sources say officers found the women in a hokkie, they had been shot in the head and hands.

“The motive for the murders is unknown at this stage. The circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated and more information cannot be released at this stage.”
On Saturday evening, in two separate shooting incidents, five men aged between 18 and 39-years-old were shot dead and one injured.
Van Wyk says police have now initiated a 72-hour Action Plan following the shootings which includes lockdown and operations conducted by the Public Order police, K9 unit and the Flying Squad.
