Residents at the 8ste Laan informal settlement in Valhalla Park say they were shocked when a 20-year-old man from their area was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting on Sunday afternoon.
The young man, known as Vito, was on his way to work when men in a car passed him.
One of the passengers jumped out and shot him where he stood waiting for his taxi on Robert Sobukwe Drive.
People living along the main road say they had to duck as bullets went through their homes. The shooter fired about 10 shots, jumped back into the car and they drove off.
The victim died on the scene.
Police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk, says: “A 20-year-old male was fatally wounded while waiting for a taxi on Robert Sobukwe Drive to go to work.
“It is alleged that a vehicle pulled up to the victim and one male got out and opened fire on the victim and the vehicle drove off.
“The victim sustained several injuries to his body. A murder case is under investigation.”
