A pastor has educated 240 children about the Coronavirus and social distancing while serving them a hot meal in Lavender Hill.
Pastor Mark Nicholson will continue to feed hundreds of laaities and the elderly in the area during the 21-day national lockdown after receiving authorisation.
On Wednesday, Pastor Mark started a soccer club called Lavender Hill Sports and Recreational Foundation, which has over 300 kids as members.
He also feeds hundreds of youngsters weekly.
He received hundreds of pamphlets from Dr Leana Brady to help teach the kinders about the pandemic.
Yesterday, with the help of the Peninsula Feeding Scheme, he managed to feed 240 children while practising social distancing.
HOT MEAL: Pastor Mark feeds the Lavender Hill children
“Many days these children come and hug me, but I taught them that they need to stop touching one another and do the elbow handshake,” he says.
“We practised social distancing and let the children sit one metre apart and gave them pamphlets which they could take home.”
He says cops have given them the go-ahead: “I have approached our local police station because since the president announced the lockdown on Monday, we have been feeding 150 children each day.
“We have told the police that we want to continue feeding the children and the elderly during the lockdown and make their food into parcels.
“We are looking for funding to purchase bread for the elderly who are unable to go to the shops.
“I have toilet paper and soap which I intend on handing out to the homeless this week and provide them with pamphlets as they do not have access to social media and television.”
He says he gave children a stern warning to stay inside doors: “I had to tell them that the police will arrest anyone who they see outside because we do not want the children to be at risk on the streets. We had to shock them.”
