Two men were arrested at the Swellendam weighbridge on the N2 after traffic cops caught them with poached abalone worth R3.8 million.
Provincial traffic officers decided to take a close look at a white Nissan bakkie and were astounded to find 44 bags stuffed with perly.
The two men were detained at Swellendam SAPS where they are to appear in court as soon as they are charged.
Provincial Traffic Chief, Kenny Africa, confirmed the bust and says 4407 units of perly were confiscated.
“In the early hours of Monday morning, provincial traffic officers arrested two men after their bakkie was searched at the Swellendam weighbridge.
“The men were detained on three charges, which include motor vehicle theft, the display of false number plates on a vehicle and the 44 bags of abalone, totalling 4407 units worth R3.8 million.”
