A 30-year-old man has abandoned his bail application after he was charged with stabbing his mentally
disabled sister.
The 18-year-old girl has the mind and physical development of an 11-year-old child.
The man, who cannot be identified to protect the identity of his sister, was to apply for bail on Monday at the Mitchells Plain Magistrates’ Court.
But before the State could oppose the application, his lawyer indicated her client would no longer be proceeding with the matter.
The case was then postponed to Thursday and the suspect will be remanded.

The man was arrested two weeks ago after he allegedly stabbed his sister in her left shoulder. It’s believed he attacked her after he demanded money from her in a bedroom at their home in Eastridge.
The man’s mother, 48, says her son has been addicted to drugs for the past five years and that she has obtained a protection order against him after previous incidents.
She says on 29 June, the man wanted money from his disabled sister and during a violent outburst, he allegedly stabbed her.
“He has been on drugs between five and six years and had a steady job and was in and out of rehabilitation,” says the mother.
“He came out of rehab a month before the incident took place.
“He wanted money from my daughter and he was like a monster that night, I cannot explain in words how he was.
“She had money and he wanted it from her.
“She is mentally challenged and has the intelligence of an 11-year-old child.
“We had him arrested on the same weekend it happened.”
The mom of three begged the State prosecutor to oppose bail and keep her son behind bars.
She also submitted her protection order which was handed in as evidence.
“We are traumatised and this has been an ongoing thing, he has terrorised our family in moments of violence,” she adds.
“My daughter remembers what happened. When we asked her what she would say to him when she sees him again, she said: “Why did you hurt me when I did nothing to you?”
