Three young children perished in a fire which gutted their Hazel Road home in Valhalla Park on Friday morning.
The Wendy house fire started at 7am on Friday morning, killing two boys, aged three and 13, and a six-year-old girl.
Their 34-year-old mother and two other siblings are currently receiving medical treatment in hospital.
It is believed that the fire was caused by an electric short circuit.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant- Colonel Andre Traut confirmed the incident.
"A fire at a Wendy house at the back of a property in Hazel Street in Valhalla Park, Bishop Lavis, claimed the lives of three children, aged three, six and 13-years-old on Friday at 07:00," Traut says.
"The 34 year old mother and two other children sustained burn wounds."
The severity of their condition is not known at this time.
The City of Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue Services Theo Layne said: "The cause of the fire was an electric short circuit. We had 14 firefighters and four vehicles battling for hours to extinguish the fire.”
