A bag-snatching skelm, who was caught on camera ripping a Strandfontein woman’s bag from her arms, has been arrested thanks to wakker cops.
Strandfontein Community Police Forum (CPF) chairperson, Sandy Schuter-Flowers, says more than a week after the incident in Bayview, they thought the skelms would not be caught but got a welcome surprise when Lentegeur cops called to say they were spotted at Westgate Mall.
“On 4 November, a woman walking to work was approached by one of the men in a white VW Golf,” she says.
“They were two in the car and in a video of the incident, you can see the Golf drives down the road and a few seconds later, a woman is seen walking in the same
direction.
“Then a man comes from behind and grabs the bag and the Golf then reverses up the road and the suspect gets in and they drive away.”
CAPTURED: Video of skelm robbing woman
She says the woman reported the matter to Strandfontein police, but the skelms were not spotted in the area again.
“We got a video and sent it around on social media and they never returned, but on Saturday night, Lentegeur police called us and said they spotted a Golf matching this description at Westgate Mall.
“During a search of the vehicle, they found a stolen laptop and called me about the registration number of the Golf and it matched.
“They were held for the possession of stolen goods and still have to be linked to the Strandfontein case.

“At this stage it is not clear how many
suspects were arrested or found in the car,” Sandy says.
