Skoen skelms thought they could help themselves to lekker tekkies for Christmas when they burgled the Sportscene store at Westgate Mall.
The shop at the Mitchells Plain mall was broken into by an unknown number of suspects after close of business at 8pm on Tuesday.
Alert cops were, however, able to arrest one of the thieves.
It is not clear what the extent of the damage to the store is and what exactly was stolen.
But the shop would be opera- ting as per normal, management stated.
The Foschini Group (TFG) Group Security Manager: Group Forensics and Security spokesperson, Deon Potgieter, confirmed the incident.
“The Sportscene store at Westgate Mall in Mitchells Plain was burgled around 8pm on Tuesday, 18 December,” he says.
“One suspect was apprehended and fortunately, since this occurred after hours, no employees or customers were present.
“The case is currently being investigated by the South African Police Services (SAPS). The store will continue trading.”
Police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk, says: “This office can confirm that a break-in occurred at a shop in a shopping mall on Tuesday evening and a suspect was later arrested.
“The investigation is continuing. This case has been registered at Lentegeur SAPS.”
