A skollie from Heideveld was gunned down in front of a school child during a gang shooting on Tuesday morning.
Manenberg Police Station commander, Brigadier Enolium Joseph, says shortly after 7 am gunshots rang out in Devil’s Peak Road as two skollies opened fire on the 39-year-old man.
“On this first day of a new school term gunshots shattered the quiet morning as children walked to school within the Heideveld area,” says Joseph.
“The man, allegedly a member of the Hard Livings gang, was shot and killed as [the] community prepared to go to work and children to school in this final term of this year.
“According to eye-witnesses, he was chased by two men of an opposing gang. One of them was armed with a pistol.”
The gunmen chased him from Devil’s Peak Road into Anysberg Road.
“The first shot made the victim fall and when he was down the male with the firearm fired the fatal shot to the back of the victim’s head.
“This was in broad daylight in front of so many people on their way to work. The suspects fled the scene on foot.”
Police are now investigating a murder case and no arrests have been made.
“This situation will not become a gang conflict. I have committed the best team of detectives from the Serious Violence Crimes Unit to investigate this shooting incident,” Joseph adds.
