A security boss, with alleged links to underworld figures, was chased and gunned down by armed men at N1 City Mall on Sunday.
Bullet casings were found scattered along Frans Conradie Drive following the shooting just after 6pm.
Timothy Lotter, 47, owner of Extreme Measures Security, was shot multiple times as he tried to escape his attackers, who are said to have been in a grey BMW.
His white Ford Ranger bakkie came crashing to a halt metres from the entrance of the Checkers store at N1 City Mall along Louwtjie Rothman Street.
The vehicle’s tyres were shot out and the body was riddled with bullet holes.
Lotter died on the scene.

Police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk confirmed the incident and says no arrests have been made yet.
“Circumstances surrounding a shooting incident on Sunday at about 6.25pm at the corner of Giel Basson and Frans Conradie Drive where a 47-year-old man was shot and fatally wounded are under investigation,” he says.
“A murder case was registered for investigation. Detectives are following up on all leads.”
Lotter is believed to have been murdered because of his alleged links with underworld figures currently embroiled in a turf war in Cape Town’s nightclub industry.
He was responsible for providing bouncers at several Cape Town bars and clubs.
A well-placed source in the security industry says in addition, some of Lotter’s more notorious clients are now scrambling for personal armed security as they all fear “they could be next”.
“Lotter was the guy who provided armed security for men like (controversial businessman) Mark Lifman, Andre Naude and (suspected gang boss) Jerome
“Donkie” Booysen,” the source reveals.
‘CLIENT’: Jerome Booysen
“Now that he’s dead, his former clients are running around for security. They’re panicking.”
Lotter was named during the ongoing trial involving Nafiz Modack, Colin Booysen, Ashley Fields, and Jacques Cronje.
The group is accused of money laundering and extortion in a violent takeover of the local nightclub security industry.
They are accused of trying to extort R90 000 from The Grand Africa Cafe and Beach near the V&A Waterfront in 2017 as their security company, The Security Group (TSG), took over as service providers.
‘PROTECTED’: Mark Lifman
During the trial, the state’s star witness and brand manager for The Grand, Radley Dijkers, testified that he knew Lotter.
“I was looking for security to protect me and my family and met with Lotter. But, I believed he was not the one as he did not have enough credentials for me,” the court heard.
Lotter’s company, Extreme Measures Security, took over as service providers from TSG in 2018 when that
company terminated their contract with The Grand.
Daily Voice contacted Modack, asking whether he had any concerns after Lotter was murdered, but he refused to be drawn into the matter, only saying: “No comment”.
