A trigger-happy skollie in Bonteheuwel was shot in the arm after he attempted to rob and assault someone at gunpoint in Geelhout Street early on Thursday morning.
The man, who allegedly belongs to the Dixie Boys gang, was stopped in his tracks when community members called in Metro Police.
Residents say the skollie victimises innocent people in the area.
Ward councillor Angus McKenzie said Metro Police officers were called in by the community and the suspect was almost immediately caught.
“A known Dixie Boy gangster was apprehended and detained this morning while being caught red-handed shooting in Geelhout Street in Bonteheuwel.
“A huge thanks to the City officers for placing their lives at such danger to stop what could have been yet another fatality in Bonteheuwel.
“Well done to Metro Police. With reduced powers, manpower and resources our City Law Enforcement officials are continuing to keep our communities safer for all,” McKenzie said.
Spokesperson for Metro Police, Sergeant Ruth Solomons, confirmed their officers responded to a complaint of a robbery and assault in Bonteheuwel yesterday morning.
“During the pursuit of the suspect, a scuffle broke out and the suspect was shot in the arm.
“He was transported to hospital, under police guard, for treatment. Metro Police officials registered a case at SAPS as per normal procedures,” Solomons said.
