Two skelms thought they could get away with stealing road signs from a project in Kraaifontein but didn’t get very far.
One of the diewe ran for nearly a kilometre before he was tackled by a fit security guard.
Council workers arrived at the site in Van Riebeeck Street, which is being broadened, on Thursday morning to find most of the signs used to warn motorists still there.
But later that afternoon these two brazen skelms decided to help themselves to the signs.
BEWARE THE SKELMS: Kraaifontein
Kobus, a guard from Titanium Security Services, says: “They had packed the signs into a wheelie bin and walked off.
“A resident, Sven, saw what was happening. Hy het nie op hom laat wag nie en het die een rower platgeduik.
“The other guy ran off but I gave chase, he zigged and zagged but he couldn’t shake me.
“He ran in the direction of Bloekombos, and it was about a kilometre later that I managed to tackle him in Maroela Crescent.”
He says a tow-truck driver came to pick him and the skelm up and took them back to the other suspect in Van Riebeeck Street.
“We were lucky to get all the road signs back. They were probably going to sell it as scrap.”
