A 34-year-old taxi driver was arrested while a woman opened a rape case against him in Nyanga.
The victim was at Nyanga SAPS when a cop spotted her alleged perpetrator buying meat at a store opposite.
According to Nyanga Community Police Forum spokesperson Dumsani Qwebe, the victim asked to be transported to Gugulethu but the driver had other plans.
“The driver took her to another area where he allegedly raped her and took her belongings,” Qwebe says.
“He later dropped her off along Borcherds Quarry Road and she got a lift to the police station.”
The woman gave cops a description of the driver and his car.

Dumsani says a police officer decided to get some fresh air and spotted a Toyota Avanza across the street matching the description.
“God works in mysterious ways because the female officer was feeling hot and decided to go out to get fresh air. She saw the car and immediately called for backup.”
After the arrest was made the victim, who was still at the police station, identified the man.
“We want to thank the police officer who made this arrest because these cases are not easy to crack, police would have been out now looking for the Avanza and there are many of them,” says Dumsani.
A meat seller, who witnessed the arrest, said: “I saw the police taking him while he was preparing to eat the meat he had bought. He must be locked away.”
SAPS’ Captain FC Van Wyk confirmed the arrest and says the suspect is expected to appear in the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court soon.
