She is now offering a R5 000 reward for information which leads to an arrest.
The mother of Herman Hendricks, Anna, is calling on residents in Lotus River, Elsies River, Parow Valley and Goodwood to be on the lookout for Ziyaad Haywood, 32.
Herman was killed on Guy Fawkes Day (5 November) last year when a man allegedly walked up to him and shot him in the face.
Anna says she was told by the detective that they are looking for Haywood and in December police released a picture of him saying he is wanted on various charges including murder.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana, said: “Provincial detectives are requesting the assistance of the public in tracing a suspect known as Ziyaad Haywood. He is 32 years old and his last residential addresses were Tsessebe Road in Lotus River, and Taylor Street in Parow Valley.”
The mother says despite the publication of the killer’s photograph, he has not been caught.
This weekend she released her own rewards poster calling for help in her search.
“I am putting up the reward to get people to help me find him. Once he is arrested, I will pay the person who helps the police find him, R5 000 in cash on the spot. My son’s ashes are still in a box and we cannot say goodbye properly or have closure until the killer is caught.”
