A Mitchells Plain woman says she was grossed out when she bit into a plaster inside a pizza from her family’s favourite restaurant.
Leecole Dias, 31, from Tafelsig says she and her family love Debonairs Pizza in Promenade Mall but were shocked to find the used band-aid, which she says looks like it fell off someone’s finger as they prepared the pizza.
She says he husband and daughter went to buy two large creamy chicken mushroom pizzas at the restaurant last Monday and brought them home.
“We are regulars at the shop as we purchase pizza every week,” she says.
She says she was lekker honger and chowed down, but got a nasty surprise.
“I took one bite into the pizza and I bit on the plaster. It was a very bad experience,” says Leecole.

“I immediately called the shop and they sent their driver. He brought two other pizzas, but the bad experience did not end there,” she says angrily.
Leecole says the Debonairs delivery driver nearly knocked her daughter.
“As he was pulling away, he nearly knocked my child, but she jumped out of the way and he broke my water pipe. The next day they sent someone to come fix it.”
She says all she wants from Debonairs is an apology for the plaster in her pizza.

“The manager never got back to me. I called their head office and they said I got a pizza in return so there’s nothing they can do about it.
“I am concerned about their hygiene and want to know why the person who was wearing the plaster wasn’t wearing any gloves?”
She adds: “I will never ever again buy from there again.”
Debonairs Pizza Operations Executive, Christopher Wingrove, says they are aware of the incident but claims none of their staff members were wearing a plaster.
“In instances whereby a team member is required to wear a band-aid, Debonairs Pizza requires them to wear a brightly coloured band-aid, most often blue in colour, for easy identification.
“Team members are also required to wear a surgical glove over the band-aid as an additional precaution,” Wingrove said.
He says the plaster on Leecole’s pizza was beige.
“Debonairs Pizza unfortunately cannot confirm the origin of the plaster,” says Wingrove.
“All team members were checked and none were found to have any cuts or abrasions that could have led to requiring a plaster. We can confirm that the customer was immediately contacted”.
