Manenberg police are seeking help in tracing two Pakistani men accused of kidnapping and robbing a Bangladeshi man from Surrey Estate.
Manenberg police station commander Brigadier Enolium Joseph says Yasser Abas and Farhad Shiad have been on the run since December last year after failing to show up to their court appearance.
He says on 1 September 2016, the two armed men entered a bakery in Comet Road where they held up a 42-year-old Bangladeshi man.
“The victim worked at the bakery and had allegedly tried to extort the Pakistani men for protection money for their shops,” says Joseph.
“They then went to the bakery where the Bangladeshis worked and held the man up at gunpoint and forced him into his blue Toyota Corolla.
ON THE RUN: Suspect Farhad Shiad
“They drove to Schaapkraal where they threatened him and forced him to draw money from his bank account.”
The victim was released and reported the matter to Manenberg police, who found his car abandoned in Fish Hoek.
“They were arrested shortly after it was reported and sent to Athlone Magistrates’ Court where their bail application was denied. The case was transferred to Wynberg Regional Court where they appealed the bail decision and it was granted and they were set free.
“They were supposed to be back at court on 12 December 2017 but never pitched and have been on the run ever since. They face charges of kidnapping, armed robbery and theft,” Joseph says.
