Western Cape premier Helen Zille and the province's human settlements minister Bonginkosi Madikizela will on Monday launch a R212 million new housing project in Mitchell’s Plain, the local government said.
The New Woodlands Integrated Residential Development Programme will yield 440 housing opportunities for Kosovo informal settlement residents and New Woodlands "backyarders".
It forms part of the Southern Corridor integrated human settlement programme, a catalytic project registered with the national department of human settlements. The programme is a joint initiative with Cape Town and will deliver approximately 50,000 housing opportunities to residents within the city.
The first phase of the Southern Corridor project will yield up to 10,000 housing opportunities in the Philippi and Mitchell's Plain areas.
