A suspected gang member and drug addict in Delft was shot dead on Saturday in what is thought to be a case of mistaken identity.
According to witnesses, Igsaan “Saan” Hendricks was shot at more than six times and sustained at least three gunshot wounds.
His killer ran up to him and shot him at close range.
The 26-year-old died on the scene in Maartlelie Crescent before
emergency services could arrive.
But neighbours say Saan, who grew up in Roosendal, was not the intended target and his shooter was actually looking for his friend.
SCENE: Fatal shooting.
“Saan was a druggie and involved in lots of robberies here in the area. They said last week he was given a gun and told to kill someone, but ended up shooting the wrong person,” said a resident, who asked to remain anonymous.
“Those people found out who told him to go do it. That guy just gives the young guys guns.
“They thought it was him [who ordered the hit] walking down the road and shot Igsaan. But he also had it coming. Rop nog mense.”
Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Andrè Traut, confirmed the
incident: “On Saturday at around 9.30pm, a 26-year-old man was shot and killed in Maartlelie
Crescent, Delft, by unknown suspects who are yet to be arrested.”
