A Windsor Park family got a front row seat to what appeared to be a scene from a movie when a white Land Rover pulled up to a G4S Security cash-in-transit van and blew it up.
The family says the robbers first shot out the tyres of the van before bombing the back open.
Two skelms got out of the Land Rover and walked up to the van, which was on the corner of Hill and Darwin streets in Kraaifontein, and pointed guns at the driver and his guard.
The skelms fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Lauren Lee Mohammed, 28, says the entire thing happened in front of her, a friend and their traumatised families.
“They first shot out the van’s tyres. The driver started crying when the men pointed their guns at them,” she says.
“The robber took the driver and his guard’s guns and then they jumped off and the world shook as they blew open the van.
“People ran to get a closer look, and by then the robbers had gotten what they wanted and were driving off in their Land Rover.”
Police arrived shortly thereafter and the scene was cordoned off.
Provincial police spokesperson Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana directed queries to their national office but SAPS spokesman Vish Naidoo did not respond to queries by last night.
In June, brazen robbers blew up a G4S security van on Jakes Gerwel Drive.
The blast left hundreds of bank notes scattered on the highway.
The diewe, travelling in five cars, grabbed several cash boxes but fled after a shootout with cops.
