The Department of Social Development (DSD) has asked the police to investigate a sex tape involving teenagers which has gone viral on social media.
The clip, which shows a 16-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl having sex, was recorded and posted online by a 16-year-old Lotus River girl who landed in hot water last year over a bullying video in which she threatened to escort her younger victim to her grave.
Last week the teen made headlines again over the tape.
The vuilbek is seen sitting next to the minor couple on a bed, and says among other things: “They said this session was gonna be 15 minutes ne, but it’s taking like forever.”
Social Development MEC Albert Fritz has expressed shock and says his department has launched an investigation, especially with regards to people spreading and sharing the video.
“The Western Cape Department of Social Development will enlist the assistance of the South African Police Services to investigate a matter involving three alleged minors recording themselves involved in sexual acts, and posting it online,” he says.
“This act could constitute the production and distribution of child pornography, and could bring psycho-social harm to the minors involved. It is important to remember that these are minors, and the law enjoins us to always act in the best interests of children.
“DSD has arranged for social workers to make contact with the minors and parents.
“They will assess the children to determine an appropriate level of assistance to the children and their families in terms of the Children’s Act of 2005.”
Lieutenant Colonel André Traut has warned people against “sharing” the video on Facebook as this will be regarded as distributing child pornography.
Meanwhile, a support group for the 16-year old girl has been started on Facebook.
By last night, the page had 464 likes, and 470 followers.
In the “About” section, it says: “Even through all she’s done, she’s still human. We don’t support bullying, we support forgiveness.”
