A Beacon Valley teen is the latest fatality in a spate of shootings in the area over the past few months.
Riedewaan Boltman, 15, was shot six times in his upper body in Rolbal Street on Sunday night.
Five other youngsters in the area were shot in the legs in the same week.
Riedewaan died on the scene surrounded by his family.
His father Ebrahiem Boltman says his son was innocent and had no gang affiliations to be killed.
“He was shot six or seven times for no reason. He wasn’t a gangster, he was a respectful teen who loved soccer, school and friends,” he says.
“He was a soccer maniac and gat vatter, he loved to tease his sisters.
“He had two fights in his life and he lost both those fights because I would give him and the boy he fought with a pak.”
Riedewaan, who was in Grade 10 at Oval North Secondary School, wanted to be a boilermaker.
“The other boys who were shot recently are all his friends.
“Even though he told his shooter with his hands up that he wasn’t a gangster, he was still shot.
“He looked exactly like me, if they knew he was my child, they wouldn’t have shot him.
“If you wanted to shoot me, then shoot me, but not a defenceless child. They shot him with no remorse.”
Riedewaan lived with his father and stepmother Muneeba.
His grandmother Salama Salie, 72, says she warned him to go home minutes before he was killed.
“He was with me shortly before he was shot. I gave him a piece of chicken and said ‘kanala, go home, they are shooting here’,” she explains.
“I just finished making salaah and then someone called me to say he was shot, they shot him from behind.”
Riedewaan’s mother Shahieda van Sitters, 37, adds: “He was just for school and his deen (religion).”
SAPS’ Andre Traut confirms: “A male was shot and killed in Beacon Valley by an unknown suspect who is yet to be arrested.
