Hundreds of Parkwood residents rioted through the streets on Tuesday night as they moered a suspected rapist until he was unconscious.
Videos of the vicious attack show the angry mob pelting the 44-year-old with stones and hitting him with sticks until he bleeds on an open veldjie. A stone to the head renders him unconscious.
According to a police source, mense went bos when they heard the man was accused of raping a woman at knifepoint on Monday morning.
“The 21-year-old woman is from Southfield and he allegedly held her at knife point while she was walking to work just after 7am.
“He forced her to go to Princess Vlei and kept her there for several hours where he raped her and allegedly told her he knows her father.”
TENSE: Emotions ran high in Hoosain Parker Street.
The source says the woman reported the incident to cops and the next day officers were spotted in Parkwood looking for the suspect.
The source says: “The community put two and two together and when they saw him, they went bos.
“All hell broke loose in Hoosain Parker Street just after 6pm as they chased him and moered him. They threw bricks at him, hit him with sticks until he fell flou.
“There were more than 100 people attacking him and they were ready to kill him.”
In a video taken at the scene, the alleged rapist is seen lying on his back as blood flows from his face.
“ Die is van mense wat rape, hulle word in hulle p*** gemaak,” a man is heard shouting.
A woman tells the group he is still alive while another man calls for his penis to be cut off.
Emotions ran high in Hoosain Parker Street as residents chased after a suspected rapist in Parkwood.
Acting Grassy Park station commander, Lieutenant-Colonel Christopher Esau, says as officers were trying to take the man away from the mob, they were also pelted with stones.
“The crowd was volatile and, in the incident, an officer put his hand on his firearm and felt the hand of another person, so it is suspected that someone was trying to steal his firearm.
“He was unable to tell who in the crowd was responsible.
“Stones were thrown at the officers, but no injuries were recorded.
“The man was taken to Victoria Hospital for medical treatment and we call on the community not to take the law into their own hands,” says Esau.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana, confirms a rape case is under investigation and says police are also investigating an attempted murder case for the mob justice attack on the 44-year-old suspect.
