Police are hunting for the gunmen who shot and killed a driver in his taxi on Friday evening in Eerste River.
The 31-year-old man, who has only been identified as Monray, was believed to be dropping off his gaatjie in Cabral Road, Forest Glade when suspects opened fire on him just after 8pm.
According to witnesses, Monray was shot five times before crashing his white Toyota Quantum taxi into a vibacrete fence in Cabral Street.
“Monray lost control of the vehicle when the guys were shooting. He crashed the taxi through a yard. Luckily, the vibracrete stopped him from crashing into a Wendy house in that yard,” the witness explained.
Shocked neighbours stood in the road waiting for police to remove Monray’s body.
The witness says Monray recently moved to Cape Town and worked for a transport company, called Double O.
“He only moved from Beaufort West two months ago,” the witness said.
