Shoprite has been targeted again and this time the skelms pistol-whipped a female security guard before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of money.
The drama unfolded on Saturday evening at the Shoprite Liquor Store in Strandfontein Road, Pelican Park.
The store is located next to the supermarket.
Cops say four armed robbers stormed the shop at 6.15pm and demanded money before hitting the female security guard in the head.
No shots were fired, but the skelms threatened to shoot the frightened woman.
In a matter of minutes, police cordoned off the area.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana says cops are hunting for the suspects.
“According to information, four unidentified suspects threatened the victim with a firearm and took an undisclosed amount of money,” she says.
“No shots were fired. Suspects are yet to be arrested.”
It is unclear if the female security guard received any medical attention.
This is the second Shoprite store to be hit on the Cape Flats in less than a week.
Shoprite spokesperson Sarita van Wyk could not be reached yesterday.
On May 1, three brazen armed robbers carried out a robbery at Shoprite at Nyanga Junction mall, leading to a 12-hour hostage drama.
The robbers were targeting a social grant paypoint.
During a shootout between robbers and security, armed response officer Patrick Castle, 28, of TSU Group was wounded and later died in hospital while one of the skelms was injured.
Another robber was killed by cops when negotiations ended and a third is still op vrye voet.
Ten hostages, which included cleaners and management at Shoprite, were rescued unharmed.
