Armed robbers have once again hit a Golden Arrow bus travelling to Mitchells Plain by posing as commuters.
In the most recent incident last Friday, two gunmen boarded a bus to Rocklands and robbed passengers near Samora Machel.
According to a witness, who asked not to be named, the two men boarded the 1.30pm bus from the Cape Town CBD.
“The two guys got on in town. One sat near the back, the other in the middle,” the woman says.
“As the bus neared Samora [Machel], they got up, brandished guns and started taking the cellphones off all the people who had earphones in their ears.
“What hurt most was the bus was full of schoolkids too.
“They jumped off and the driver was unaware what was happening until people started shouting and she only stopped at the Fire Station in Mitchells Plain to wait for the police.
“By which time the perpetrators were long gone.”
Golden Arrow spokesperson Bronwen Dyke-Beyer says: “No passengers were injured during the robbery but personal belongings were taken by the perpetrators.”
This is the fourth incident involving a Golden Arrow bus in recent weeks.
Dyke-Beyer says they are working with police in the hopes of catching these brazen criminals.
“Due to the sensitivity of the operations, we are not able to provide exact details but we are hopeful that arrests will follow.”
Last Wednesday, the 2.30pm bus travelling from Bellville to Town Centre was ambushed by three unknown gunmen and commuters robbed.
According to a commuter, the skelms boarded the bus at Airport Industria.
