A knife-wielding skelm, who tried to rob people on their way to work on Saturday, met his match when an angry mob attacked him, stabbing him five times.
Manenberg police station commander, Brigadier Enolium Joseph, says police were called to Duinefontein Road at about 6.30am on Saturday where the body of an unidentified man was found.
He says according to witnesses, the man and two accomplices were robbing people on their way to work near Nyanga Junction when he was attacked and stabbed five times in the chest.
“According to the information received, the man was one of three robbers who were targeting people on their way to work or waiting for their transport,” says Joseph.
“The two security guards were waiting for their lift and one of them went to an ATM and they were approached by the three men armed with knives. All hell broke loose when the guards fought them off and other people allegedly joined in.”
Joseph says while two of the skelms fled, one man was caught by the angry mob who stabbed him.
“He ran across Duinefontein Road but collapsed on the side of the road where he died,” adds Joseph.
"He had five stab wounds on his chest and was declared dead on the scene. He is believed to be from Gugulethu. No arrests have been made.”
