Police are searching for suspects after the Post Office in Makhaza was robbed on Tuesday morning.
Just before 12pm, six armed men stormed into the post office at the shopping centre and held the staff at gunpoint, before stealing an undisclosed amount of cash.
A witness at the scene who requested not to be named says everything happened very quickly.
“I work near the post office and everything was quiet. It was a normal day.
“Guys then pulled up in this white car and they were a bit overloaded but I didn’t think anything of it,” the witness explains.
He says when the men got out and went into the post office, he became suspicious.
“They got out and they kept looking around, as if they were trying to see who was close by.
“I got distracted and then just heard tyres screeching and saw this vehicle drive off.
“I didn’t take much note of what type of car it was or the model or anything.
“We then heard the post office was robbed. Everyone is shocked because it could have been any of our stores,” the man adds.
Police spokesperson, Felicia Adams, confirmed the incident: “A case of business robbery has been opened for investigation following an incident that occurred on Tuesday at about 11.50am at a shopping centre in Makhaza.
“Six armed suspects entered a Post Office and fled the scene with cash. No shots were fired and no injuries have been reported.
“The investigation continues.”
