Funds are being raised to help lay to rest a petrol attendant who was shot and killed while helping his friend hunt robbers.
Luthando Rangana had been a petrol attendant at the BP Aero Motors in Kenwyn, where he was employed for five years.
His boss, Hayden Gordon, says the 26-year-old man had been off-duty on 25 July when he was shot and killed in Khayelitsha.
Hayden says Luthando had been asked by a friend, who had been robbed at his home in Ilitha Park, to help him find the suspects.
He explains Luthando was always willing to help others and he was not surprised to hear the young man had helped his friend.
Cops say the two had found the suspects at about 11.30pm, who opened fire, shooting Luthando in the head while his friend was left wounded.
“He was a worker who is irreplaceable, he was one of a kind,” said a hartseer Hayden.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana, confirmed a case of murder is under investigation with no arrests yet.
Ward councillor Mark Kleinschmidt says the Kenwyn Neighbourhood Watch is now raising funds to have Luthando’s body transported to the Eastern Cape for burial.
“Luthando was loved by his customers whom he served with utmost dedication,” said Kleinschmidt.
“Luthando was unmarried and is survived by his ailing father and 5-year-old son.”
Donations can be handed in at BP Aero to Ms. Parie or Hayden Gordon.
