A man accused of killing a Surrey Estate oupa in a brutal attack on the man and his wife in 2018 has been sentenced to life in the mang.
Angelo Klein, 41, from Manenberg was sentenced at the Western Cape High Court on Wednesday for the murder of Peter Goliath, 70, who died defending his wife Elizabeth, 68,
during a home invasion.
The brutal attack on the elderly couple left the community in shock after Peter, who suffered from epilepsy, was declared dead in his Orion Street home on 25 August 2018.
Klein, along with a neighbour of the couple, were arrested for the attack, during which they assaulted the pensioners and tried to smother Elizabeth with a pillow.
The case was investigated by Detective Sergeant Jeffrey Witbooi from Manenberg Police Station and Klein was charged with murder, attempted murder, housebreaking and robbery with aggravating circumstances.

Police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk, says the oupa died after being stabbed.
“The suspect attempted to murder Mrs. Goliath by stabbing her with a sharp object hitting, strangling and later suffocating her,” he says.
“Angelo then stole a television set and cellphone with an estimated value of R8000 and fled the scene.”
During the trial, Elizabeth bravely took to the stand to testify.
Klein was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder, 12 years imprisonment for attempted murder and 15 years for housebreaking with the intent to rob and robbery with aggravating
circumstances.
The sentences will run concurrently.
VICTIM: Peter Goliath, 70
Peter’s daughter Lizelle Seconds, 37, says the family can finally have closure.
“It is still hard because we miss my father, but we are happy,” she says.
“Even though they did not have enough evidence to convict the neighbour, I believe the murder was premeditated.
“Sergeant Witbooi and the state advocate really gave such great service, even when my mother had to take the stand.
“They always kept us informed and dealt with her in a very humane manner as she relived that experience.”
Lizelle says her mother has since moved.
