A commuter, in a hurry and hoping to catch a train, ended up in hospital after he got knocked by a train.
The man was left injured on Tuesday morning at Wetton Train Station.
Just after 6am, a 28-year-old man wanted to board a moving train, but got knocked instead, hurting his foot.
Metrorail’s Acting Marketing and Communications Manager, Daphne Kayster, confirmed the incident and said trains were cancelled and delayed as a result of the unfortunate incident.
“The incident was reported at 6.23am on Tuesday. A male, approximately 28 years old, tried to board a moving train (inbound T0506) at Wetton Station and in the process sustained injuries to his foot,” Kayster said.
No other injuries were reported.
Kayster said the injured commuter was transported to a nearby hospital: “The man was taken by ambulance to Groote Schuur Hospital for further treatment.”
She said two trains were cancelled and commuters travelling on the Cape Flats line were delayed by up to 40 minutes as a result of the incident.
“Service resumed upon the Cape Flats line between Wetton and Lansdowne and the scene cleared at 7.36am.
“The incident resulted in extended travel time of 30 to 40 minutes on the line as well as cancellations of two trains (T0517 and T0518),” Kayster added.
