An off-duty policeman has shot himself in the head after he allegedly raped the 18-year-old sister of his girlfriend at gunpoint.
Cops were called to the scene in Stallion Road, Westridge, Mitchells Plain, yesterday afternoon after 2pm where they found the body of Constable Ashley Heywood, 27.
Heywood, who was stationed at Mitchells Plain, was off duty and was due to begin night shift.
Police sources close to the investigation say Heywood was home alone with his girlfriend's teenage sister when he allegedly held her at gunpoint and sexually assaulted her.
The young matric girl lived with Haywood and her sister.
It’s believed that he immediately regretted his action, and turned the gun on himself.
It is not clear who called emergency services, but when police and medics arrived at the scene, Heywood was already dead.
Mitchells Plain Station Commander, Brigadier Cass Goolam, who was on the scene, tells Daily Voice: “Police received a call of a suicide in Stallion Road, Westridge.
“Upon arrival police saw a male who had a bullet wound to the head.
“The victim is a police member stationed at Mitchells Plain Police Station.
“A relative was present at the time of the incident, the member’s state firearm was recovered.”
The FCS [family violence, child protection and sexual offences unit] was also called to the scene.
“This is also a rape scene, this cop raped his girlfriend’s sister at gunpoint,” a source on the scene said.
Police spokesman Lt. Col Andre Traut confirms an allegation of rape against the deceased is being investigated.
