A Diep River man has placed alleged wife killer, Rob Packham, at the scene of his wife’s burning car on the day she died.
The former Twizza boss is on trial at the Cape High Court for the murder of his wife, Gill, 56.
Yesterday, friends Lance Govender and Keanon Thomas took the stand and told the court what they saw the day Gill’s charred remains were found in the boot of her green BMW.
In his testimony, Govender explained he visited Thomas, who lives near Diep River Train Station, to help with his laptop.
The friends said they played video games between 7pm and 8pm when they heard Thomas’ dogs barking.
Govender said as they exited the house they heard someone running in the bushes and shortly after they saw a fire.
Initially, they thought it was a veld fire but on closer inspection they saw a car alight.
Thomas ran into the house to tell his mother and when he came out, he saw a white Audi SUV leaving the scene.
BURNT BODY FOUND IN CAR: Gill Packham, 56
He said he tried to stop the driver and while standing a metre away, he saw Packham behind the wheel.
Earlier in the week, defence advocate Craig Webster said Packham denied driving Gill’s car on the day she went missing and was instead driving his white Audi Q5 while searching for his missing wife.
During his earlier appearances at Wynberg Magistrates’ Court in 2018, State prosecutor Brynmor Benjamin indicated cops had found blood in Packham’s car and in the garage and bathroom at the couple’s Constantia home.
The trial resumes on Monday.
