An ambulance was called over the weekend after community activist Fadiel Adams, who is currently on a hunger strike outside parliament “became dizzy and incoherent”.
While he wasn’t taken to hospital, Adams said yesterday, on day six of his protest, that he has now resorted to drinking some liquids to avoid dehydration and to prevent permanent damage to his kidneys.
Adams went on his hunger strike last week, hoping to force government to take proactive steps against the rape and murder of children.
Sunday, Adams appeared noticeably weaker and thinner as he sat on a blow-up mattress in a small tent, surrounded by members from his G@tvol Capetonian civic organisation and the Cape Coloured Congress who came out to support him.
“My body is sore, but There is no stopping,” he tells the Daily Voice.
“My family understands that this needs to be done, including my daughter.
“The paramedics did their checks and wanted to take me to hospital and I said no.
“I started drinking water last night (Saturday) due to my kidneys, it felt like they were going to pop out.”
Earlier he took to Facebook, saying that he had missed his children but was making the sacrifice for the sake of murder victims like Emaan Solomons, 7, of Ocean View and Tazne Van Wyk, 8, of Ravensmead.

He wrote: “My insides are shaking all the time, my legs feel as if I’ve run a marathon, and I’m permanently nauseous. MUL
“This may be the last time I write on this topic, my cognitive senses aren’t what they should be. I have to check every word twice, just in case.”
The activist also said he would only stop his hunger strike when President Cyril Ramaphosa acknowledged him.
