Metro Police officers arrested a 53-year-old alleged drug merchant in Hanover Park on Friday after she was found hiding drugs in her ceiling.
Officers attached to the Rental Stock Unit were executing a search warrant at the premises in Donegal Court when they came across drugs with an
estimated street value of R62 000.
The home owner’s suspicious behaviour led officers to the ceiling where they found parcels of dagga and stoppe, over 800 heroin straws, 153 grams of heroin powder, almost 500 mandrax tables and 48 grams of tik.
Metro Police spokesperson Superintendent Ruth Solomons explains: “The owner of the property gave the officers permission to search the place, but while they were doing so, they noticed she was nervous.

“An officer searched the ceiling in the living room and pulled out a bag which contained parcels of dagga.
“The officer further inspected the ceiling and found more drugs.
“The home owner resisted arrest and tried to destroy some of the evidence by grabbing a bag of heroin and dispersing the powder.
“The 53-year-old woman was arrested for dealing in drugs, resisting arrest and defeating the ends of justice and was taken to the Philippi Police Station.”
